Celebrating with Food
Spring brings my birthday and it's the perfect occaison to celebrate with delicous food! This month I'm taking a look back at some of my favorite birthday foods. From local to international and recent to back in the 1900's as the kids would say!
I’ve been lucky to spend my birthday is some fantastic destinations. My first international birthday was spent in Madrid, Spain. I enjoyed amazing churros con chocolate, wine, cheese, and many plates of olives.
For two birthdays, work trips took me international. One trip to Singapore and the other to Santiago, Chile. In Singapore, the hotel sent me a rich chocolate cake and I started the day with a breakfast buffet full of amazing food - soups, steam buns, and more. The hotel breakfast buffets are quite an amazing display of foods. Not only do they offer local favorites, they also have dishes to appeal to travellers from across the globe.
In Chile, our group spent the day at a ranch in the Andes mountains. After a horseback ride, we had a meal of roasted meats, fresh vegetables, and plenty of local red wine.
Closer to home, I love to pick a fun restaurant to try out each year. From sushi to steak, it’s a great chance to try out a new place! While I do miss a good old fashioned birthday party with a themed cake (see my Muppets themed first birthday below), the past few birthdays have had a cake made by my kids and a hockey tournament weekend birthday celebrated with the team. Wherever the celebration may be, it always has family, friends, and good food!
One of my other favorite birthday traditions is to take advantage of the birthday rewards and treats from my favorite local businesses. I love them! As a marketer, I know it’s a way to get me in and as a consumer I love a little treat! I write down a list of all the birthday rewards and create a plan to try to visit all the shops and restaurants during birthday month. Each year I challenge myself to make the most expensive coffee beverage to really take advantage of one reward!
